World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. It is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis, in support of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030. The focus of World Water Day 2023 is on the theme of “Accelerating the change to solve the water and sanitation crisis”.

Water is one of the most important substances found on earth, that is why we say "water is life". Life cannot be imagined without water. The chemical formula of water is H2O. Thus, a water molecule consists of one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms. Water covers about 70% of the Earth surface. Water is absolutely necessary for mankind, plants, and animals, but for every living being. Without water, no life is possible on earth. Therefore, water is essential and one of the most important elements for the existence of every living being. We cannot lead our life, without water. It acts as a nutrient in the same way as carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Water is essential not only for drinking but also for the purposes of our daily life like bathing, cooking, cleaning, washing, etc. Apart from drinking and domestic purposes, water is vital for the existence of our world. Conserving water is important for our well-being and for the future to come. Where there is no water, there is no life.

Water is essential for every organ, cell, and tissue of our body. Water makes up two-thirds of our body. It helps in keeping our body temperature normal. Without water, the cells in our body will not function properly. Doctors advise us to drink an adequate amount of water so that we can detoxify our body and always maintain water balance in the body. We get water either directly or through fruits or vegetables which contain some water content.

Drinking water needs to be clean and pure for health, otherwise, there is a risk of many diseases due to impure water, which can also be fatal. That is why clean water should be used for drinking water.

As it is known that water is an essential element for all living beings on earth. The flow of life within living species begins with water. We should stop the wastage of water in a normal routine. If we give some thought to its importance, we can contribute to nature by controlling the use of water very easily in our daily life activities, preventing its wastage. We all should help in controlling the wastage of water and prevent pollution by following some rules in our life.

This World Water Day, let us take a pledge to not waste water and save it for a better future.
